First of all a quick word to thank all that came and performed at the Spirit of Folk Awards Semi Finals 2013. The judges are busy deliberating and should have a decision by Friday. In the meantime we are busy putting together our lineup for the main event on the 21st of September and putting the finishing touches to our Spirit of Folk Programme 2013. The festival moves this year from the mian fields of the park to the nooks and crannies of Dunderry's grounds but you can expect all the usual touches of Spirit of Folk including a folky feast!
So we asked each band that was part of the awards to give us a few words on what music means to them, how they got together and any other words of wisdom they might have! Today is Mossy Nolan who will be playing at 9pm on Saturday.

We are delighted to announce the nine Semi Finalists for the Spirit of Folk Awards 2013. Over 100 bands applied and after several shortlists, hours of listening parties and much musing over how talented this nation is, our judges, (after much deliberation), have decided on who will play at The Semi Finals in Whelans on Wexford Street on the 31st of August.
In 2013 Spirit of Folk will be hosting ‘The Spirit of Folk Awards’ with a very special qualifying all day event in Whelans in Dublin and a bespoke final at the Dunderry Park house and grounds in September.
So Spirit of Folk has come and gone for another year and great craic was had by all! Throughout the festival weekend we had teams of filmmakers competing in our FILM FOLKUS competition. The rules were simple: Write and direct a 2 min short that includes falconry, archery, a Viking and at least one cast member you don't know. We were looking for all our teams to use their creative powers to capture the magic of the Spirit of Folk. Well, we received the team entries after the festival weekend, all of which were of high quality and very entertaining!
Spirit of Folk ends festival season with an inspiring and original array of activities.
Shortlisted in 2011 for ‘Best New Festival’ in the European Festival awards, Spirit of Folk returns this September 21st-23rd with a unique slant on the traditional Irish camping festival. The festival prides itself on it’s well defined niche, and promises to celebrate the harvest season in style amongst the stunning backdrop of Dunderry Park, Co. Meath.
