‘MOXIE’ crowned Kings of Folk at Spirit of Folk Awards Finals

Along with a whole host of folky activities including a massive Burning of the Phoenix, last Saturday's Spirit of Folk Feastival also hosted The finals of The Spirit of Folk Awards. Taking to the stage were The Cujo Family, Miriam Donohue and Moxie who were the final three picked out of over 100 shortlisted bands for the Awards.

As dusk settled on Dunderry Park and the festival revelers crowded around the woodland stage the three acts played to an attentive and excited audience. Judges Carl Corcoran from RTE Lyric Fm's Blue of the Night and Conor Byrne of The Liffey Sessions were in attendance and both judges agreed on the level of talent apparent and the difficult decision on choosing a winner

'I'd like to say how impressed we were with the overall standard that we witnessed throughout the judging process - from the shortlisted selection, through the 9 semi finalists and culminating with an exciting performance by all three finalists on the day which had as much excitement as the Dublin Mayo All Ireland - and like that too, there can only be one winner. Congrats to all  - commiserations to Miriam and Cujo Family - ye did well! Continued success to Moxie.' Carl Corcoran

Both runner-ups will receive artist residencies at Dunderry Park with the winners MOXIE receiving €1000 bursary, a weeks artist residency at Dunderry Park and Recording time at Darkland Studios.
