Festival Line Up Just Announced!

Today is the day folks... the Line up for this years fesitval has been announced!!

We've been busy sending our official press release to anyone and everyone this morning.. and we've been proudly showing off our brand new animation that the very talented Dearbhla Kelly put together for us! Over the next few days we'll be updating the site with info on all this years wonderful performers, from our Folktastic Bands to our wonderful Storytellers. Our Body, Mind, Soul area this year is going to be even more packed than last year and of course The Hall of Heroes will be returning, with fun, games and general Madness over the whole weekend!

Spirit of FolkFestival Unveils Line-up and Announces Extra Night 

Spirit ofFolk, Ireland’s newest festival ‘celebrating all things folk’, today announcedthe line-up and addition of an extra night for this year’s festival, once againtaking place in the idyllic surroundings of Dunderry Park, Co Meath.

Returning this year from September 21st to 23rd,Spirit of Folk 2012 will see musicians and storytellers from allover Ireland and the UK come together for a weekend of music, arts, craft,spirituality, philosophy and folklore. This year’sfamily-friendly festival line up boasts an impressive mix of traditional Irishmusic, folk, bluegrass and country; from established Irish singer songwritersto emerging acts, the beautiful and bespoke three-day event will truly embodythe spirit of all things folk.

Festival Director, Natasha Duffy, commented:“We are delighted and proud to announce the fantastic line up we have plannedfor this year’s Spirit of Folk festival.  In our sophomore year, we aim totruly celebrate Irish folk in a relaxed family-friendly setting with greatmusic and events for everyone to enjoy – a magical way to bid farewell tosummer and finish the festival season in style!”

This year’s Spirit of Folk festival line upfeatures: JohnSpillane,Irish singer/songwriter and twice winner of the Meteor award for BestFolk/Trad; The Lost Brothers, anIrish duo hailing from Omagh and Navan, as seen on RTE’s ‘Other Voices’; Lisa O’Neill, rapidly emerging as one of the truestcontemporary Irish folk voices and recently returned from touring with Welshsinger David Gray; I DrawSlow,a five-piece outfit comprising alt-country, folk, roots, old-time Americana; Spook of the Thirteenth Lock, Irish folk rock banddelving into the realms of psych, prog and post rock.

Other acts featuring at this year’s festivalinclude: Tucan; The Hot Sprockets; Mossy Nolan; The Henry Girls; The YoungFolk; Tir na nOg; Aoife Scott; Jig away the Donkey; Pete Cummins; The BonnyMen; Traz; The Man Whom, Gypsy Rebble Rabble; Bunoscionn; Trad side of themoon; Wookalilly; Alpaca Jamboree; Miriam Donohue; Joy Booth; TAC; Twin HeadedWolf; The Eskies; Cry Monster Cry; Hidden Highways and JP Trio and Niamh.

  

To accompany this feast of musical acts, therewill be an abundance of alternative events for all to enjoy,including storytelling and poetry reading by Pat Speight, Eddie Lenihan, TimEvans, Jack Sheehan and Stephen James Smith; as well as talks and workshops onancient druidism and shamanism; Tibetan Mandala making and singing bowls;Native American pipe ceremonies; dreams analysis; and ancient astronomy andpermaculture.

The evolution of Spirit of Folk 2012 sees itgrow in size, with an addition of a headline stage and an organic food marketto the plethora of events in the picturesque surroundings of Dunderry Park. Athird night has also been added to the proceedings with camping available onSunday night as well.

A limited supply of Early Bird weekend ticketsfor €65 and day tickets for €35 will be available until 31st May only. From Juneonwards, weekend tickets will cost €85 and day tickets will cost €45.
